New to CU?

Interested in Computers Unlimited Distributing your products ?
We are always very interested to hear from manufacturers and publishers who have new or established leading-edge products. Before we will agree to a partnership with a vendor we need to feel that both the product and the plan around the product are strong.

Here is a brief explanation of the best way to start working with us, if you have a product or solution that you feel is suited to distribution by CU. Please Note: every new vendor enquiry is treated as confidential.

1 Email us regarding your proposition. Give an outline of what the product(s) does, your expectations for the UK marketplace and any other information about you, the product or your company you feel is important for us to gain a clear picture of the opportunity that working with you presents.

2 We'll respond with our initial view of the proposal. If we see a fit for the product(s) and feel we are indeed the best partner for you, then the next step is a meeting or conference call to discuss the opportunity further.

3 Send us samples of the product for evaluation by our technical and product marketing team. We will need the whole product as it will ship to the end user, including packaging, disks, manuals, etc.

4 We'll meet you to discuss the proposition in detail. We evaluate the proposition using the following factors:

a End user market size - how big is the potential market for the product? Or how big is it already?

b Channel structure - is the product already distributed? Would CU be exclusive? Is the channel ready for such a product? We would actively pursue the opinion of relevant dealers at this stage.

c Competition - is the product unique or a market-leader? How many others are out there with a similar product and why is yours better? CU strives to supply our customers 'best of breed' products rather than me-too offerings.

d Marketing support - to what extent are you prepared to promote your product. This can be either by way of funding marketing projects that our in-house Marketing team carry out for you, or funds that you may be spending via other agencies in the UK. A strong mix of marketing activities such as PR, direct mail, and advertising are important factors in the success of a product in the UK.

e Distributor support - we need to understand your ability and willingness to support CU's technical support, purchasing, product management and sales teams with training and tools.

f Technical ability. We will evaluate your product, focusing on:
* Build quality of hardware and/or packaging
* How easy is it to install and use?
* Documentation - how good are the manuals and start-up guides?
* Unique features - what makes this such a good product ? Does it technically live up to the expectations?
* Competition - is it any better/worse than the competition ?

5 We'll create a business plan, including sales and marketing plans, to detail how we feel end user and channel demand is to be created. We will discuss our contract with you, clarifying any sections required.

6 Once we are close to an agreement the proposition will be presented to our evaluation board (a mix of sales, logistics, marketing and other executive personnel) who will make a final decision.

7 We'll meet with you to discuss our decision. If it's positive we exchange signed contracts - and a place an initial stock order.

8 Congratulations - we're in business - let's get selling!
